Guwahati, Jan 3: The Namibia senior women’s cricket team is set to tour Assam for a four-match friendly series beginning January 8, marking another step in growing international cricket cooperation between the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) and Cricket Namibia. The tour is being held under a reciprocal arrangement aimed at providing greater global exposure to players from both sides.
During their stay, the Namibian side will face the Assam senior women’s team in a mixed-format series featuring two 50-over matches and two T20 games. The fixtures will be played between January 8 and January 11 at the Mangaldai Sports Association Stadium in Mangaldai and the ACA Cricket Academy Ground at Fulung in North Guwahati.
The ACA described the tour as an important moment for women’s cricket in the state, noting that the series will help deepen sporting ties between India and Namibia while offering a competitive platform for players to test their skills in international conditions. The association said such exchanges are vital for the overall development of the game and for enhancing Assam’s profile as a host for international cricket.
ACA Secretary Sanatan Das said the association was pleased to welcome the Namibian team and highlighted that hosting an international women’s series reflects Assam’s growing recognition as a viable destination for overseas cricket engagements. He added that the series also reinforces the strong relationship being built with Cricket Namibia through regular exchanges.
According to the schedule, the Namibia women’s team will arrive in Guwahati on January 6, with January 7 reserved for practice and acclimatisation. The two 50-over matches will be played on January 8 and 9, followed by the T20 encounters on January 10 and 11. The visiting team is scheduled to depart on January 12.
The upcoming tour follows recent international exposure initiatives by the ACA. Last year, a 15-member Assam senior men’s team toured Namibia for a five-match 50-over series, while the Assam senior women’s side also travelled overseas to play a five-match series in Malaysia. These exchanges underline the association’s continued focus on expanding opportunities for its players through regular international competition.
