Tezpur: Tezpur Medical College & Hospital branch of Asam Sahitya Sabha organised a heartfelt tribute ceremony on the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in collaboration with the students union of Tezpur Medical College & Hospital.
Attending the programme as distinguished guest Asam Sahitya Sabha principal secretary Debojit Bora described Dr Bhupen Hazarika as an immortal entity and a symbol of the undying pride and spirit of the people of Assam. ‘Through his creations in diverse fields Dr. Hazarika enriched not only the Asam Sahitya Sabha but also the Assamese nation at large’. Bora said.

The tribute ceremony began with lighting of a ceremonial lamp by the Principal of Tezpur Medical College, Prof. Dr. Karuna Hazarika. President of the Teachers’ Association of the college Prof. Dr. Dhirendranath Choudhury garlanded the portrait of Dr Bhupen Hazarika .
Prof. Dr. Karuna Hazarika paying rich tribute to the legend discussed the contributions made by Sudhakantha Bhupen Hazarika in manifold ways.He amazed the audience by reciting a poem composed on the life and works of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
The noted guests attended the programme organising secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dulal Nath, Central Publicity Convener Sankusiddha Nath, convenor of Swajatiya Maitribandhan sub committee Ramen Bharali,Sonipur Zila Sahitya Sabha vice president Prabin Kotoki and several others also took part in the discussion and shared their views highlighting life and works of Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

The event was further enriched by the rendition of the group song Asom Amar Rupahi…” performed by students of the medical college, screening of a documentary by Manoj Bora titled ‘Bihangam Drishtit Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’ based on the life of the legendary figure, presentation of poems, songs, and cultural performances by Dr Niru Prabha Saharia, Dr. Dilip Shaloi, Dr. Dipika Lahon, Manoj Kumar Nath, Nipan Jyoti Sarma,Prerona Rajkhowa,Girija Kumar and several students and faculty members.
The programme conducted by Tinkumoni Kalita and Kankana Baruah concluded with a collective rendition of Dr. Hazarika’s timeless song ‘Manuhe Manuhor Babe’ (“Man is for Man”. During the programme, a proposal was also put forward to host a central event under the initiative of the newly formed Tezpur Medical College branch of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in the near future.
