IPS Debajyoti Mukherjee Honoured with DGP’s Gold Medal

Guwahati: In recognition of his exceptional service and dedication, IPS officer Debajyoti Mukherjee has been awarded the prestigious Director General of Police’s Gold Medal. Currently serving as Inspector General of Police (Border) and Inspector General of Fire & Emergency Services, Assam, Mukherjee has earned wide acclaim for his professionalism and commitment to policing.

Born in Tezpur, Mukherjee spent his early school years in Shillong and Dhubri before pursuing higher education at Gauhati University, where he completed a postgraduate degree in Economics with first-class honours. A 2005-batch IPS officer, he has consistently demonstrated outstanding performance throughout his career.

Mukherjee’s contributions have been recognised on multiple occasions. In 2020, he received the Medal for Excellence in Investigation from the Union Home Minister, in addition to the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Away from his demanding professional life, Mukherjee enjoys listening to music and travelling. He is married to Dr Sudesna Bhattacharya, director of the Anandaram Barua Bhasha Kala Sanskritik Sanstha in North Guwahati, Kamrup district. The DGP’s Gold Medal is a testament to Mukherjee’s unwavering dedication and exemplary service, further cementing his reputation as one of Assam Police’s most respected officers.
