Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh police carried out a major operation in Moran after recovering ₹14.50 lakh in cash from the residence of a daily-wage labourer, raising serious suspicions of terror funding and organised financial fraud. According to police sources, the recovery was made during a special search operation conducted at Gogul Pathar Khagarijan under the jurisdiction of Moran Police Station. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs and was led by Tingkhong sub-division Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Brandon Daimary, along with Moran police station in-charge Dantejit Deuri.
During the raid, police searched the house of Birju Thakur, who works as a daily-wage labourer. To the surprise of the investigating team, a box hidden under a bed in his bedroom was found to contain ₹14.50 lakh in cash. Officials said the possession of such a large sum by a labourer has raised serious questions regarding the source and purpose of the money. Preliminary investigations suggest that the recovered cash could be linked to terror funding, illegal extortion or organised financial fraud. An FIR has been registered at Moran Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with Case No. 89/24. Police are now probing how the money reached the accused and whether any organised network or criminal syndicate is involved.

Birju Thakur has been taken into custody and is currently being interrogated. Police said he will be produced before the Dibrugarh court as the investigation progresses. Commenting on the operation, DSP Brandon Daimary stated that all possible angles are being examined, including potential links to terror funding and larger criminal networks. He added that strict legal action would be taken against those found involved, based on the outcome of the investigation.
