Mizo Language Learning Centre to Come Up at Kamalanagar in South Mizoram

Aizawl, Jan 7: A Mizo language learning centre will be established at Kamalanagar, the headquarters of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), in Lawngtlai district of south Mizoram, with the aim of helping job aspirants meet language proficiency requirements, an official said.

The decision was taken at a meeting attended by officials of the District School Education Board, headmasters and representatives of the Mizoram Chakma Students’ Union (MCSU). Mizo National Front (MNF) legislator from the Tuichawng constituency and CADC member Rasik Mohan Chakma was also present.

Addressing the meeting, Chakma underscored the growing importance of Mizo language proficiency for candidates seeking government employment in the state. He noted that a working knowledge of the language has become essential, especially as the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC) conducts mandatory Mizo language proficiency tests for recruitment.

Chakma announced that funds from his MLA Local Area Development quota would be utilised to set up the centre at Kamalanagar, also known as Chawngte. The proposed facility will focus on preparing candidates for the MPSC’s Mizo language proficiency examinations.

Officials said the initiative will be implemented through coordinated efforts involving the MLA, the CADC authorities and the MCSU. While the MCSU (Central) will oversee the day-to-day functioning of the learning centre, the CADC education department will extend logistical support.

The learning centre is expected to benefit Chakma youth and other aspirants in the region by strengthening their language skills and improving their prospects in state government recruitment.
