Guwahati, Jan 9: Two schoolgirls were seriously injured after a speeding motorcycle hit them while they were on their way to appear for a pre-matric examination in Assam’s Mairabari area of Morigaon district on January 9.
The accident took place in front of Mairabari Senior Secondary School when a high-speed motorcycle, allegedly being driven rashly, rammed into the two students. Both girls sustained severe injuries in the impact.
The injured students were immediately rushed to Mairabari Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, students of the school gathered at the hospital premises and demanded strict action against the biker involved. Tension prevailed briefly as protesters urged the authorities to take strong measures against reckless driving.
The incident has triggered strong reactions in the area, with local residents alleging that frequent cases of rash bike riding have become a serious threat to pedestrian safety in Mairabari.
