Imphal, Jan 15: Security forces arrested five militants belonging to different proscribed outfits from Manipur’s Imphal Valley districts, police said on January 15.
Officials said three cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Noyon) were apprehended from Mantripukhri Lamlongei Maning Leikai in Imphal East district. The arrested militants were allegedly involved in extorting money from local business establishments in the area.
In another operation, a member of the outlawed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) was arrested from Sekmai Khunou in Imphal West district. Police identified him as 35-year-old Shaggoslem Lokeshor Singh, who was reportedly residing at a relief camp in Mantop, Yumpham, at the time of his arrest.
Separately, security personnel arrested another militant linked to KYKL (SOREPA) from the Uripok Achom Leikai area of Imphal West district. He was identified as 19-year-old Shamulailatpam Arbin Sharma, police said.
Authorities stated that the arrests were carried out as part of sustained operations to curb militant activities and extortion networks in the valley districts. Further investigation is underway to determine the involvement of the arrested individuals and their possible links to other insurgent activities in the state.
