Assam Reiterates Commitment to Strengthening Startup Ecosystem on National Startup Day

Guwahati, Jan 16: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 16 reaffirmed the state government’s focus on building a strong and dynamic startup ecosystem, stating that innovation and entrepreneurship were crucial to shaping India’s future.

In a post shared on X on the occasion of National Startup Day, Sarma said Assam was working to empower young entrepreneurs by providing the necessary support, opportunities and an enabling environment that fosters innovation and impact-driven enterprises. Highlighting key initiatives, he said 615 startups had been incubated through the Northeast Entrepreneurship and Startup Training (NEST) programme under the Assam Startup initiative since 2021.

The Chief Minister said the state had also established a ₹200-crore Assam Venture Capital Fund to extend financial assistance to emerging startups and help them scale their ideas into sustainable ventures.

He further noted that the CM Atmanirbhar Assam Abhijan was supporting thousands of young entrepreneurs across the state by offering institutional support and access to resources.

Sarma added that Assam’s startup-centric policies were aimed at triggering a startup revolution in the state, enabling youth to innovate, generate employment and contribute significantly to economic growth.
