GUWAHATI, Jan 16: A tragic train-related accident claimed the life of a young man in the Lanka area of Assam on January 16 after he was struck by a railway signal post while travelling on a moving train, police officials said.
The incident took place at around 5.45 am when the victim was on board the Silchar–Rangiya Express, also known as the Guwahati Special Fare train. According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, the youth was standing close to the door of the coach when his head collided with a railway signal post positioned near the track in the Lanka area.
The impact proved fatal, and the young man died on the spot before any assistance could be provided. Preliminary information indicates that the deceased hailed from Karimganj district in southern Assam.
Following the incident, Railway Police rushed to the location, recovered the body and completed the required legal procedures. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the fatal accident.
