Imphal, Jan 16: Security forces have arrested another individual in connection with the bomb explosion at a fuel station in Manipur’s Bishnupur district last week, police confirmed on January 16, marking a further breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
The latest accused, a 41-year-old man, was apprehended on January 15 from the Lamphel Sana Keithel area in Imphal West district. During the operation, security personnel recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from his possession. A senior police officer said the man was an accomplice of the main accused involved in the attack on the fuel station.
Investigators stated that the arrest follows the earlier detention of a 35-year-old cadre of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), who was taken into custody from the Komnao Makha Leikai area in Kakching district for his alleged role in the same incident.
According to police, the bomb was hurled at the Elidas fuel station in the Moirang Thana Leikai area on the evening of January 8. The explosion did not cause injuries but prompted authorities to shut down fuel stations across the valley districts for three days as a precautionary measure.
During the latest arrest, security forces seized one SMG carbine with four loaded magazines, a 9 mm pistol, two high-explosive hand grenades and two detonators. Officials said further investigation is underway to trace additional links and determine the full extent of the network involved in the attack.
