Imphal, Jan 16: Manipur Police on January 15 arrested four persons and seized a substantial quantity of alcoholic beverages after intercepting two unregistered Gypsy vehicles in the Pallel Maning Leikai area under Pallel Police Station in Kakching district. The action was taken following specific intelligence inputs indicating the movement of illicit liquor through the area, police officials said.
During the operation, police personnel stopped two Gypsy vehicles that were travelling without registration number plates. A thorough search of the vehicles led to the recovery of a large consignment of alcohol, confirming suspicions that the vehicles were being used for illegal transportation.
The four occupants of the vehicles were identified as Darshung (24), ST Koko (27), Kophamhring (23) and HP Mono (30), all residents of Zaphou Bazar in Chandel district. They were taken into custody on the spot for further questioning.
Police said the seized items included 219 bottles of 360 ml JO-Ei Soju and 685 cans of 500 ml Chang beer. Both vehicles used to transport the liquor were also confiscated as part of the operation.
Officials stated that the arrested individuals are being interrogated to determine the source of the liquor and its intended destination. Investigators are also examining whether the case is connected to a larger network involved in the illegal trade and movement of alcohol across districts. Police reiterated that surveillance and checking drives will be intensified to curb unlawful activities, particularly the illicit transportation of liquor in the region.
