Itanagar, Jan 17: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on January 17 hailed the VB-G RAM G Act as a bold and forward-looking reform that strengthens India’s commitment to rural empowerment and inclusive development. Speaking to reporters in Namsai district, Mein said the legislation reflects a clear vision under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure livelihoods and accelerate grassroots development across the country.
Describing the Act as a landmark initiative, the deputy chief minister noted that it provides a statutory guarantee of 125 days of employment in rural areas, significantly enhancing employment security for villagers. He said the legislation goes beyond short-term relief by emphasising the creation of durable assets that will continue to benefit rural communities over the long term.
Mein highlighted that the Act places strong focus on sustainable infrastructure development in critical sectors such as water resource management, rural road connectivity, agricultural support systems and disaster preparedness. According to him, these assets will not only generate employment opportunities but also boost productivity, resilience and overall quality of life in rural India.
Stressing the importance of decentralised governance, Mein said the Act empowers gram sabhas and panchayats by placing them at the core of planning and implementation. This, he added, ensures that development initiatives are shaped by local priorities and aspirations, with active public participation forming the foundation of effective execution.
On issues of transparency and accountability, the deputy chief minister said the framework incorporates digital monitoring mechanisms, improved financial transparency and provisions that align employment generation with agricultural cycles. These measures, he said, would help minimise leakages, improve efficiency and ensure that benefits reach eligible rural households in a timely manner, ultimately strengthening farmer welfare and rural livelihoods.
