Guwahati, Jan 18: Vadya School of Music marked the third edition of its annual concert with a vibrant showcase of young talent at the Shri Shri Madhavdev International Auditorium in Guwahati on January 18. Titled “MAYA – Vadya Music Concert 2026”, the event featured 70 student performers and stood out for its strong emphasis on solo performances, placing individual expression and confidence at the heart of the evening.
Addressing the philosophy behind the concert, Vadya School of Music Director Prerona Bhuyan said the institution believes every child deserves the spotlight. She noted that confidence is built when students stand alone on stage and take ownership of their performance, adding that musical ability can be developed with the right guidance. Describing teachers as gardeners, she emphasised that nurturing potential is more important than relying solely on natural talent.
While Vadya follows a Western music curriculum, this year’s theme highlighted the idea that music transcends rigid boundaries. The concert reflected this belief by demonstrating how structured training in one system can flow naturally across genres, languages and traditions. The programme opened with a medley of songs by Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, performed by Vadya students, setting an emotionally engaging tone for the evening.
Several young pianists and keyboardists paid tribute to Zubeen Garg by performing some of his most cherished compositions, including “Mayabini,” “Maya Mathu Maya,” and “Ya Ali,” alongside Bollywood adaptations inspired by his music. These performances underlined the singer’s enduring influence across generations and musical styles.
The repertoire also featured Western classical works by composers such as Mozart and Bach, highlighting the students’ technical training and musical sensitivity. These classical pieces were balanced with contemporary and cinematic themes, including music from popular franchises like “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Mission Impossible,” reinforcing the concert’s central theme of Maya, or the seamless blending of musical worlds.
Founded in 2022 by internationally acclaimed Sattriya dancer Prerona Bhuyan, entrepreneur Madhurya Bora and pianist Mone Daimary, Vadya School of Music has grown into a learning space for over 100 students. The institution offers professional training in piano, keyboard, vocals, guitar, drums and music production, catering to learners across age groups.
Beyond classroom teaching, Vadya provides students with regular performance opportunities through concerts, television appearances, workshops and lecture-demonstrations. The school has also hosted interactions with several eminent personalities from the arts and cinema, enriching students’ exposure to the creative world. Access to the Vadya Music Studios, a modern recording facility, further allows young musicians to gain hands-on experience in professional music production.
With “MAYA – Vadya Music Concert 2026”, Vadya School of Music once again reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive performance platforms, confidence-building and holistic music education, demonstrating how young performers can rise to the occasion when entrusted with the stage.
