Imphal, Jan 21: Security forces in Manipur intensified their offensive against insurgent and extortion networks on January 20, 2026, arresting four active cadres linked to different banned militant outfits in coordinated, intelligence-based operations across Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
One of the key arrests involved a self-styled Corporal of PREPAK (VC), identified as Kangjam Milan Meetei, also known by aliases Somendro and Ibungo. The 33-year-old, originally from Sekmaijin Khunou Kangjam in Kakching district, was apprehended from his current place of residence at Sawombung Wairi in Imphal East district. A mobile phone was seized during the operation.
In another operation in Imphal East, security personnel arrested Senjam Bosco Meitei, alias Tamba, a 25-year-old active cadre of KCP (PSC). A resident of Nongren Mamang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station, he was detained from Nongada Makha Leikai, with a mobile phone recovered from his possession.
Manipur Police also recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of an active NSCN (IM) cadre, Lanhungba Khumba, aged 29, from the Mantripukhri area under Heingang Police Station. During the arrest, security forces seized a .32 pistol with a magazine loaded with four live rounds, two mobile phones along with a charger, and a black Pulsar N160 motorcycle without a registration number.
In Imphal West district, another operation led to the arrest of Leishangthem Hiran Singh, 40, an active cadre of KCP (PWG), from his residence at Koutruk Ching Leikai under Lamsang Police Station. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered during the raid.
Security officials said investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the arrested individuals’ involvement in militant activities and extortion rackets. They added that further operations remain likely as agencies continue their intensified efforts to dismantle insurgent networks operating in the state.
