30-Day Traffic Restrictions Imposed on Chandmari Flyover for GNB Link Work

Guwahati, Jan 25: Commuters in Guwahati will face prolonged traffic diversions as authorities have imposed a 30-day restriction on the existing Chandmari flyover to facilitate construction work linking it with the upcoming GNB flyover.

According to a traffic advisory issued on January 24, vehicular movement on the flyover will be regulated through lane-wise closures on an alternate basis. Each lane will remain closed for 15 days, extending the construction period to a total of 30 days. Residents and daily commuters have been advised to avoid the Chandmari flyover route to reduce congestion and delays.

Traffic police have earmarked alternative routes to ease movement. Vehicles approaching from Zoo Road have been advised to proceed towards Rajgarh Road via Apurba Sinha Path or directly, and then use South Sarania Road through GS Road and Dr B Baruah Road to reach GNB Road. Commuters travelling from the Chandmari side have been directed towards Bamunimaidam via MRD Road, with onward routes through Railway Colony Road to Hatigarh Chariali or via Noonmati–Mathgharia.

To prevent bottlenecks, city buses have been instructed to strictly adhere to lane discipline, operate only on the left-most lane and refrain from overtaking. The advisory reiterated an existing Regional Transport Authority resolution that bars diesel city buses from left-side overtaking or overtaking other buses on the same route.

Traffic authorities have urged the public to plan travel in advance, follow diversions and cooperate with enforcement personnel during the construction period.
