Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture visits NERFMTTI

Biswanath Chariali: S. Rukmani, Joint Secretary, Machinery and Technology Division, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, along with two senior officers of the Ministry viz. Deputy Commissioner C. R. Lohi and Agricultural Engineer S. G. Power visited the North Eastern Region Farm Machinery Training & Testing Institute (NERFMTTI) located at Biswanath Chariali, on 22 January as part of a three-day official visit. During the visit, on 22 January, they held important discussions with senior officials of the Agriculture Department, Government of Assam, on various schemes being implemented for agricultural mechanization and the welfare for the farmers. On 23 January, the Joint Secretary, S. Rukmani, along with officers of the Ministry and the Director of NERFMTTI, P. Kamalabai, participated in a high-level meeting organized by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. On 24 January, she again visited the Institute at Biswanath Chariali and held discussions with the Director as well as officers and staff, reviewing the progress of various schemes and their proper implementation.

On this occasion, she formally inaugurated the newly constructed “e-Library cum Computer Lab,” the first of its kind among all Farm Machinery Training & Testing Institutes. She also inspected the laboratory for the newly introduced ‘Agricultural Drone’ technology for the benefit of farmers and obtained information on its usage. She provided valuable suggestions for further strengthening this institution, the only one of its kind in the North-Eastern region so as to enable farmers to derive greater benefits through the adoption and effective use of modern agricultural technologies. After completing the three-day visit, the Joint Secretary, S. Rukmani, departed for Delhi this morning.
