Nazira: Despite strict regulations, the illegal transportation of sand to brick kilns in the Gelaki area of Nazira Co-District continues unabated, raising serious concerns among local residents. Sand-laden dumpers are frequently seen moving recklessly through populated areas, endangering the lives of people and animals alike.
The dumpers, reportedly transporting sand illegally extracted from the Disang river, have become a daily sight, particularly in the Hatipati and Kolgaon areas. Residents allege that the movement of these vehicles has led to severe dust pollution, reduced visibility on roads, and an increase in accidents. Pedestrians and school-going children are among the worst affected, with many complaining of breathing difficulties and constant discomfort.

Locals claim that despite repeated complaints, the concerned authorities, including the police and the forest department, have failed to take effective action against the illegal operations. The alleged inaction has fuelled public anger and frustration.
Residents are now demanding immediate intervention, strict enforcement of existing laws, and punitive action against those involved in illegal sand mining and transportation. They have also urged the authorities to implement measures to curb dust pollution and ensure the safety of commuters and local inhabitants.
