Guwahati, Jan 31: A serious road accident on a National Highway in the Shrigauri area of Sribhumi district on Saturday, January 31, left several passengers critically injured after a dumper truck collided head-on with a traveller vehicle, triggering fears of possible fatalities.
Initial reports indicate that the force of the impact caused the traveller to lose balance, skid off the highway and overturn. Passengers travelling in the vehicle suffered severe injuries and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for emergency medical care.
While there are unverified claims that at least two people may have lost their lives in the crash, police officials said the casualty figures have not yet been confirmed. Authorities have stated that an official assessment is underway and that details regarding fatalities will be released only after verification.
Police personnel and emergency responders reached the accident site shortly after the collision and began rescue operations. The mishap led to temporary traffic disruption along the busy highway stretch as damaged vehicles were removed and the road was cleared.
An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances that led to the collision. Officials said more information is expected once preliminary inquiries are completed and medical reports are reviewed.
