Kokrajhar: A 35-year-old woman, Preeti Nath, wife of Pradeep Nath of Bhutiapara, Kokrajhar district, has gone missing under suspicious circumstances, raising concerns over possible social media blackmail, financial exploitation, and trafficking.
According to family members, Preeti, who was active on social media and used to make short videos, may have been lured by unknown individuals online. In the days leading up to her disappearance, she allegedly transferred money to suspicious accounts and reportedly even mortgaged her gold jewellery to send funds, all without her family’s knowledge.
The situation escalated when Preeti suddenly disappeared, leaving behind her husband and minor child. Following her disappearance, messages demanding money were reportedly sent to her husband from her own phone, claiming she was being taken from Guwahati. Later messages indicated she had left Guwahati by train around 10:30 pm.
The messages and accompanying voice notes, all in Hindi—though Preeti was not fluent in the language—allegedly threatened her life if ransom demands were not met, intensifying fears that she may have been coerced.

The family suspects that Preeti may have been taken out of Assam via the Kamrup–Kokrajhar route on the Avadh Assam Express from Guwahati. They have reportedly informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local authorities.
The case has sparked serious concerns in the area about the dangers of social media exploitation and the risk of organized honey-trap and trafficking operations targeting unsuspecting individuals. Authorities are investigating the matter, and the family is appealing for any information that could help locate Preeti.
