95th Annual Conference of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha from Feb. 6 at Jamugurihat

Jamugurihat (Jyoti–Bishnu Kshetra): The Jamugurihat–Dholaibeel–Naharbari Pothar area under Naduar LAC in Sonitpur district has taken on a festive and devotional atmosphere as preparations reach their final stage for the 95th Annual Conference of the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, scheduled to be held from February 6 for three days at Jyoti–Bishnu Samannai Khetra.

Thousands of devotees from across Assam and neighbouring states including Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya, along with chapters from Delhi and Puri, are expected to attend the mega Vaisnavite religious and cultural congregation. The area resonates with naam-prasanga, Harinam chanting, devotional songs and dances, reflecting the spirit of unity and bhakti preached by Srimanta Sankardeva.

As many as 35 sub-committees have been working round the clock to ensure smooth execution of the event. Preparations include a grandly designed naamghar, main pandal, meeting halls, dining facilities, exhibition areas, delegates’ camps and an artistically crafted dharma dhoja uttulan bedi shaped like a boat.

Reception committee president Prabhakar Barman and secretary Bipul Borah informed that 55 district committees are participating. Hosted by the Tezpur district, the event has a budget of ₹4.10 crore, largely contributed by devotees and local residents, including 3,400 households from 140 villages.

The conference will feature prayers, meetings, cultural programmes, Ankiya Naat presentations, book releases and exhibitions. The concluding open session will be attended by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and other dignitaries. With devotion and collective effort, Jyoti–Bishnu Kshetra is set to host one of Assam’s most significant religious gatherings.
