Guwahati, Feb 2: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) successfully rescued 12 vulnerable passengers, including eight children, during a series of coordinated operations conducted across multiple railway stations between January 24 and January 28, officials confirmed.
The rescues were carried out as part of routine surveillance activities and prompt responses to complaints received through the RailMadad grievance redressal platform. According to railway authorities, those rescued included runaway minor boys and girls, destitute children, and unattended passengers who were found travelling alone or in distressing circumstances. The operations spanned several key stations, including Falakata, Lumding, Kishanganj, Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, Kamakhya, Katihar (East), and Guwahati.
Following established protocols, all rescued minors were safely handed over to concerned Child Line units and recognised child care organisations to ensure their protection and rehabilitation. The four adults rescued during the operations were produced before local police authorities for further necessary action, officials said.
Railway authorities noted that the successful interventions reflected the vigilance, compassion and effective coordination of RPF personnel, particularly in safeguarding vulnerable sections of passengers such as children. The Northeast Frontier Railway reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and people-centric railway environment and appealed to passengers to remain alert. Authorities urged travellers to immediately inform RPF staff or use the RailMadad platform if they come across any unattended minor or suspicious situation within railway premises.
