AASAA Calls Out BJP Over Unaddressed Adivasi Issues After 21st Mahasabha

Dibrugarh: Reacting to the grand success of the 21st Adivasi Mahasabha, the President and General Secretary of the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA), Rejan Horo and Deben Uraon, said the BJP-led government will have to answer the Adivasi community for failing to address their long-pending issues ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Speaking to journalists in Margherita after the conclusion of the four-day event, the AASAA leaders expressed satisfaction over the massive participation and peaceful completion of the Mahasabha, which was held from January 29 to February 1, 2026, at the Dehing Sports Complex Samannay in Bargolai under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency in Tinsukia district.

Rejan Horo and Deben Uraon stated that despite repeated assurances, the BJP government has failed to deliver on crucial demands of the Adivasi community, including Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, land pattas, and an increase in daily wages for tea garden workers. They alleged that instead of addressing these core issues, the government has attempted to “appease” tea garden workers by offering one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000, which they termed inadequate and symbolic. The AASAA leaders further said that the Adivasi people of Assam have now resolved to seek political power from their own platform in the 2026 Assembly elections to ensure their voices are heard and their rights protected.
