13-Year-Old Domestic Help Rescued from Bed Storage During Labour Task Force Raid in Guwahati

Guwahati, Feb 3: A 13-year-old girl was rescued from a concealed storage space beneath a bed during a raid conducted by the District Labour Task Force in Guwahati’s Panjabari area on February 1, officials said, exposing an alleged case of child labour and abuse.

The operation was carried out in the presence of a magistrate at a residence in Juripar, Panjabari, owned by a woman identified as Amrin Akhtar Laskar. Officials said the raid followed complaints from local residents, who had raised concerns about a minor being employed as a domestic worker at the house.

According to preliminary findings, the girl had reportedly been working at the residence for nearly six years and was allegedly subjected to repeated physical abuse. Authorities said that moments before the raid, the accused woman attempted to hide the child inside the storage compartment under a bed. The girl remained confined there for about 25 minutes before being located and rescued by the task force.

The minor was safely removed from the premises and provided immediate assistance. Officials confirmed that legal proceedings are being initiated against the accused under relevant laws related to child labour and abuse.

An investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the case and to ensure further protection and rehabilitation of the rescued child.
