AAGYA President and Journalist Bedanta Gahatraj Extends Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas Greetings

Guwahati, Aug 20: Renowned journalist and President of the All Assam Gorkha Youth Association (AAGYA), Bedanta Gahatraj, on Thursday extended greetings to Nepali-speaking Indians in the country and abroad on the occasion of Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas 2026.

Speaking to The Assam Rising, Bedanta Gahatraj described the occasion as a significant milestone in India’s linguistic and constitutional history, commemorating the recognition of Nepali as one of the country’s scheduled languages.

He noted that the Constitution (Seventy-first Amendment) Act, 1992 incorporated Nepali, alongside Konkani and Manipuri, into the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

He further added that, “Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas is more than a linguistic commemoration; it is a reaffirmation of the constitutional recognition of our linguistic identity, cultural heritage and the enduring contribution of Nepali-speaking Indians to India’s pluralistic national fabric”.
