Guwahati, Sep 5: The Aam Admi Party, Assam State Committee through a press release today has expressed strong reactions to BJP, Assam President, Dilip Saikia’s statement supporting Indian citizenship to Hindus from Bangladesh, Pakistan or America.
In a press release today, Bhaben Choudhury, President, Aam Admi Party, Assam through a press release today stated that Dilip Saikia and Himanta Biswa Sarma have dreamt of seizing power with the votes of Bangladeshis this time.
“Dilip Saikia is not the custodian of Assam and the State cannot run according to him. If he is so charmed by foreigners, then why did the BJP government not grant citizenship to the Tamil Hindu victims in Sri Lanka despite repeated appeals? The BJP’s hypocritical love for Hindus is epitomized in the case of Srilankan Tamil Hindus”, stated the AAP President.
The AAP President further criticized Saikia stating, “Assam is still accepting the burden of foreigners who arrived after March 24, 1971, as per the Assam Accord. The land in Assam is limited, and every year due to erosion also, a significant amount of land gets washed away by the mighty Brahmaputra and other rivers. In addition, Assam’s limited natural resources cannot sustainably support this increasing population. Also the increase in Assam’s population has significantly reduced the amount of land. For many such reasons, it is absolutely unacceptable to accept foreign refugees as citizens in Assam”.
The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the BJP government withdraw the provision of allowing people who have entered India from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan due to religious persecution to grant Indian Citizenship in Assam till December, 31, 2024 through the just implemented Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025 which was imposed without proper consultation.
Speaking to The Assam Rising, Bhaben Choudhury, President, AAP Assam said, “This is totally unacceptable from Assam’s point of view. Assam is not a dumping ground for foreigners. Regardless of religion, be it Hindus or Muslims shall have to leave Assam. Assam should be barred from the Citizen (Amendment) Act since the State is already bearing the burden of demographic pressure”.
“Assam is still accepting the burden of foreigners who arrived after March 24, 1971, as per the Assam Accord”, added Bhaben Choudhury.
