Guwahati: On the occasion of World Rhino Day 2025, biodiversity conservation organisation Aaranyak organised a national-level online illustration competition to celebrate India’s wildlife heritage and raise awareness on the conservation of the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros.
The event provided a platform for participants across the country to express their creativity on three themes – Breaking Myths, Saving Rhinos; Rhino: The Pride of Assam’s Culture and Heritage; and Rhinos for Tomorrow: Conservation and Community Prosperity.

The competition drew an enthusiastic response from 45 participants aged 12–40 years, hailing from Assam, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
After evaluation, Tabin Choudhury (18) of Shrimanta Shankar Academy, Dispur, was declared winner for his illustration on Rhinos for Tomorrow: Conservation and Community Prosperity. The runner-up was Azadur Rahman (27) of Tezpur University, while a special mention went to Bhanujit Sarma (18) from Nalbari for his work on Breaking Myths, Saving Rhinos.

The programme was coordinated by Kakali Baishya of Aaranyak’s Rhino Research and Conservation Division under the guidance of Dr. Deba Kumar Dutta, with support from Dr. Bibhab Kumar Talukdar. Aaranyak expressed appreciation to all participants, reaffirming its commitment to engage people in safeguarding Assam’s iconic rhinos.
