Guwahati, May 24: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has introduced a special financial assistance scheme for UPSC aspirants from Assam, announcing a one-time support of Rs 50,000 each for 25 candidates who successfully clear the Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
The announcement was made on Sunday, May 24, by AASU president Utpal Sarma through a video message as UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination centres witnessed candidates appearing for the test across the country, including Assam.
Extending his wishes to aspirants, Sarma said the initiative has been launched with the objective of encouraging greater participation and success of students from Assam in one of the country’s most competitive examinations. He stated that the support is intended to help candidates strengthen their preparation for the next stages of the selection process.
According to AASU, the financial assistance is expected to ease the burden of expenses related to preparation for the mains examination and personality test, including enrolment in coaching programmes, purchasing test series and attending mock interview sessions.
Sarma said many candidates require specialised guidance after qualifying the preliminary stage and added that the student organisation aims to assist deserving aspirants in pursuing their civil services goals.
The scheme has been launched under AASU’s special project, ‘Pratyahwan’, which focuses on encouraging and nurturing future bureaucrats from Assam. Sarma further stated that the organisation would continue supporting talented students and creating opportunities for greater representation of Assamese youth in the country’s administrative services.
He also appealed to the people of the state to extend their support and blessings for the initiative and its long-term objectives.
