ACRD Backs 100-Day Drive for Child Marriage-Free Lakhimpur

North Lakhimpur:  Lakhimpur district marked the first anniversary of Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat with widespread enthusiasm, as the Government of India renewed its commitment to eliminate child marriage by 2030. The Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD), which has been actively working in the district, pledged full support to the government’s 100 Days Intensive Awareness Campaign, aiming to ensure its success at every level.

Launched in New Delhi by Union Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi, the 100-day plan focuses on transforming the entire ecosystem that enables child marriage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also stated that India is moving decisively toward ending the practice through strong policies and sustained grassroots efforts.

Following Centre’s directives, the Assam government has instructed officials from Health, Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, School Education, and Higher Education departments to intensify district-level action. Praising these coordinated efforts, ACRD representative Prerna Changkakati said that the district administration has shown remarkable commitment and added that India is closer than ever to achieving a child marriage-free society.

The 100-day campaign—concluding on March 8, 2026—will run in three phases focusing on educational institutions, religious places and marriage service providers, and finally panchayats and municipal wards to strengthen community ownership in ending child marriage.
