The Tinsukia District Administration has officially declared portions of the district an Infected Zone following the confirmation of African Swine Fever (ASF) within the region. An official notification from the District Commissioner designated one of the area’s Development Blocks and its surrounding one-kilometer radius as the primary Infected Zone. In line with the Action Plan for Preparedness, Control & Containment of African Swine Fever (ASF) formulated by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Assam, the immediate culling of pigs in the affected area will begin to prevent the disease from spreading further.
Complementing this containment effort, the administration has established a Surveillance Zone, spanning a ten-kilometer radius from Gobindapur village within the Makum Development Block. This broader area will be subject to stringent monitoring and the implementation of necessary preventive measures. Simultaneously, the administration has issued a critical public health advisory, urging all residents throughout the district to completely refrain from consuming pork or any pork-related products until further notification. This measure is crucial for ensuring public safety and containing the spread of ASF among the local livestock population.
The District Commissioner stressed the importance of community cooperation, urging all residents, farmers, and pig owners to strictly adhere to the containment measures and advisories set forth by the authorities to effectively manage the outbreak.
