AGCL Signs MoU with IIT Guwahati 

Duliajan: In a landmark step towards strengthening development of indigenous technology and promoting sustainable industrial performance by means adopting new technology, Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), as its knowledge Partner for collaborative research and development of indigenous technology.

The MoU was signed on December 5 at the AGCL Guwahati Office by Gokul Chandra Swargiyari, Managing Director, AGCL, and Dr. Rohit Sinha, Dean, Research and Development, IIT, Guwahati, in the august presence of Bolin Chetia, MLA, Sadiya LAC & Chairman, AGCL; Indra Gogoi, Vice-Chairman, AGCL; Rubul Baruah, Chief General Manager (Technical), AGCL; along with other distinguished officials from AGCL, IIT Guwahati, and the Tea Cluster.  

AGCL is a leading natural gas transmission and distribution company committed to promoting clean energy and aligned with its vision: “To be a growth-oriented energy company dedicated towards enhancing stakeholder value and customer delight through operational excellence and contributing towards a safe and clean eco-system.”

Under this strategic collaboration, technological solutions will be designed, developed, and implemented in line with the local environment and to meet the specific business needs. 

A major focus of this collaboration is the development of an energy-efficient system for the tea industry, which has been a backbone of Assam’s economy for over 200 years. Despite its extensive contribution, the tea sector has witnessed limited digitalization and modern technological support. To bridge this critical gap, AGCL has initiated the development of indigenous, cost-effective, and energy-efficient solutions for sustainable business coexistence of AGCL’s major consumers as tea clusters.  

The MoU also provides a strong framework for collaboration to study and provide solutions for AGCL’s perennial issue like pipeline capacity optimum utilization and augmentation, steel pipeline lifecycle management and other key product development and modernization with indigenous technology. 

The MoU, marks the beginning of a long-term strategic partnership aimed at accelerating innovation, promoting ‘Make-in-Assam’ initiatives, enhancing efficiency of Industry, and adopting new age technology.
