Guwahati, March 29: As campaigning intensifies for the 2026 Assembly elections in Assam, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate from the Sonai Assembly Constituency, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, said development initiatives in the region and coordination with the state leadership have strengthened public confidence.
Speaking to the media on March 28, Barbhuiya said he had “extended a helping hand” to Himanta Biswa Sarma and expressed satisfaction with the progress of development works in the constituency.
He said several infrastructure, healthcare and education-related projects have been implemented in the region, including construction of bridges, improvement of road connectivity and expansion of public welfare schemes.
Barbhuiya also voiced strong support for the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with the Assam Chief Minister, stating that he was “very happy with their leadership.”
Referring to a proposed expressway project currently under construction, he said the initiative would significantly improve connectivity across the Barak Valley region. According to him, the highway is expected to open up new economic opportunities, reduce travel time and boost trade and industrial prospects for local residents.
He further said improved infrastructure would support employment opportunities for youth and contribute to long-term economic growth in Sonai and adjoining areas.
