Guwahati: The All India Gorkha League (AIGL) has announced its unconditional support for Kunki Chowdhury, the Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate for the 36th Guwahati Central constituency, aligning with the broader opposition alliance. In a statement issued by its Assam State Committee, the organisation said the decision was taken after “careful consideration,” describing Chowdhury as a candidate who combines academic excellence with a progressive and inclusive political outlook. It highlighted her educational credentials, including a Master’s degree from University College London and her association with NMIMS Mumbai, noting that her exposure brings a global perspective to state politics.

The AIGL also emphasised Chowdhury’s “Gen Z approach,” portraying her as a leader focused on technology-driven governance and contemporary issues. As a nominee of the opposition bloc, it noted her candidature under the Asom Sonmilito Morcha, which includes parties such as the Indian National Congress and Raijor Dal. Highlighting her lineage, the organisation referred to her mother Sujata Gurung Chowdhury and prominent figures like Damber Singh Gurung and Ari Bahadur Gurung, underscoring their historical contributions.
Reaffirming its stance, AIGL appealed to voters to support Chowdhury, describing her as a capable representative committed to inclusive development and communal harmony, including for the Gorkha community.
