AIUDF Rejects Assam CM’s Allegations Against Gaurav Gogoi, Calls Them Politically Driven

Guwahati, Feb 8: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Sunday, February 8, dismissed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and his wife Elizabeth Gogoi over alleged links with Pakistan, describing the claims as politically motivated and lacking seriousness. The party challenged the BJP-led government to initiate legal action if it possesses credible evidence, instead of making public statements.

Reacting to the controversy, AIUDF General Secretary and MLA Rafiqul Islam said that allegations involving national security cannot be treated as a matter of political rhetoric. He asserted that if there is concrete proof linking the Congress MP or his wife to Pakistan, the authorities are duty-bound to act strictly under the law. “If such links exist, why has the government remained silent for the last two years?” Islam asked, questioning the delay in any formal action.

The AIUDF leader also raised doubts about the intent behind the timing of the allegations, suggesting they were being used for political mileage rather than genuine concern. He argued that serious accusations should be addressed through institutional mechanisms and investigations, not through repeated public remarks.

Pointing to what he termed a lack of institutional follow-up, Islam noted that Chief Minister Sarma continues to share public platforms with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “The Prime Minister and the Home Minister continue to listen to these speeches. This does not suggest that the matter is being treated with the gravity such allegations demand,” he said.

The remarks from the AIUDF come amid an intensifying political row in Assam, as opposition parties question the BJP government’s approach to handling sensitive allegations and accuse it of using national security issues for political confrontation rather than due legal process.
