Ajanta Neog Confident of Bigger BJP Mandate in Assam Elections, Highlights Women Voter Role

Guwahati, March 30: Assam minister and BJP candidate Ajanta Neog on March 30 expressed confidence that the party will secure a stronger mandate in the upcoming Assembly elections than it did in 2021, citing growing public trust in its governance.

Contesting from the Golaghat constituency, Neog said the BJP’s development record over the past five years has reinforced voter confidence. She stated that visible progress in infrastructure, economic growth and stability would translate into increased electoral support for the party.

Emphasising the role of women voters, Neog said their participation is expected to be significant in the polls. She credited initiatives such as self-help groups, financial inclusion programmes and the Lakhpati Didi scheme for strengthening women’s economic empowerment across the state.

Responding to criticism from the opposition, she dismissed allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and said the election outcome on May 4 would reflect the public’s verdict.

Neog also pointed to the expansion of the state budget and improvements in sectors such as infrastructure and flood management under the current government. She argued that voters are now prioritising performance over political promises, while criticising the Indian National Congress for what she described as a lack of credible alternatives.

Calling for greater representation of women in politics, Neog stressed the importance of inclusive governance. She is contesting against Congress candidate Bitupan Saikia in Golaghat as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance seeks a third consecutive term in Assam.
