Ajanta Neog Dropped as Assam Finance Minister in Major Cabinet Reshuffle

Guwahati, May 14: Senior Assam minister Ajanta Neog has been removed from the Finance portfolio in a major reshuffle carried out in Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s second-term cabinet.

According to an official notification approved by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday, Neog has now been assigned the Women and Child Development and Tourism departments.

Neog had served as the Finance Minister during the previous term of the BJP-led government and was regarded as one of the principal figures overseeing the state’s fiscal administration and budget management.

The fresh portfolio allocation also outlined key responsibilities entrusted to other ministers in the newly expanded cabinet.

Rameswar Teli has been given charge of the Transformation and Development, Labour Welfare, and Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare departments.

Atul Bora will oversee Panchayat and Rural Development, Implementation of Assam Accord, Border Protection and Development, and Excise.

Charan Boro, meanwhile, has been assigned the Transport department along with the Welfare of Bodoland portfolio.

In his communication to the Chief Minister, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya stated that he had approved the allocation of portfolios “as suggested” by the Chief Minister.
