Guwahati, May 4: Senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog secured a decisive victory from the Golaghat Assembly constituency in Assam, polling 1,02,212 votes and defeating Congress candidate Bitupan Saikia by a margin of 43,759 votes in the 2026 elections.
The result marks another significant gain for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance, which is on course to form the government in Assam for a third consecutive term under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Neog’s emphatic win in Golaghat is being viewed as a strong endorsement of the ruling party’s development agenda and welfare initiatives. Celebrations were reported among BJP workers and supporters as counting trends across the state continued to favour the alliance.
