Guwahati, Feb 12: AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal on February 12 launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that the latter has been delivering repeated hate speeches targeting a particular community and calling for legal action against him.
Ajmal claimed that over the past six months, the Chief Minister’s speeches have been directed against one community, creating division and tension in the state.
Referring to a recent incident, Ajmal alleged that visuals had surfaced showing Sarma “pointing a gun at some people from the Muslim community”, which he described as deeply disturbing.
“The court should order that he should not contest elections. He should be arrested immediately and sent to jail so that he comes to his senses,” Ajmal said. He further added that Sarma “does not deserve to stay in his chair even for a day.”
The remarks come amid escalating political exchanges ahead of the Assembly elections in Assam, with leaders trading allegations over communal rhetoric and governance issues.
There was no immediate response from the Chief Minister’s office regarding Ajmal’s statements.
