AJP Focuses on Economic Distress and Regional Autonomy Ahead of Assam 2026 Polls

Guwahati, March 26: With the 2026 Assembly elections approaching, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has intensified its political campaign by placing economic distress and regional autonomy at the centre of its agenda. Party president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, while unveiling the party’s manifesto and vision document, stressed that safeguarding Assam’s political future must remain the primary focus of the electoral discourse.

Addressing the media, Gogoi pointed to what he described as mounting economic pressure on the people of Assam. He alleged that the state’s financial trajectory reflects a growing disconnect between official claims and ground realities, with citizens increasingly burdened by economic challenges.

Emphasising the need to protect Assam’s long-term political interests, Gogoi said the vision of a self-reliant state has yet to be realised. He highlighted the persistence of a deficit budget, arguing that it has deepened the state’s dependence on the Central Government.

The AJP chief also outlined that the party’s vision document presents a structured roadmap to strengthen Assam’s internal production capacity. He stated that the proposed strategies are sector-specific and aim to utilise local resources more effectively, enhance economic self-sufficiency, and reduce reliance on external support.

Framing the upcoming elections as a critical juncture, Gogoi called for a shift in governance priorities, urging voters to consider issues such as economic resilience, fiscal stability, and regional empowerment. He said the party’s manifesto offers an alternative development model rooted in Assam’s own strengths and focused on sustainable growth.

As political activity gathers pace ahead of the 2026 polls, AJP’s emphasis on economic nationalism and state-centric development is set to influence the evolving electoral narrative in Assam.
