Bajali: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Wednesday accused the ruling alliance of failing to ensure adequate development in the home constituency of Khargeswar Talukdar, regarded as the first martyr of the Assam Agitation. Speaking to reporters in Sarupeta, AJYCP Central General Secretary Bijon Bayan expressed concern over what he described as continued neglect of the Bhawanipur-Sarbhog Assembly constituency. He noted that despite its historical significance as both the birthplace and martyrdom site of Talukdar, the region has not seen the level of development it deserves.

Bayan alleged that while the Bharatiya Janata Party–Asom Gana Parishad (BJP-AGP) government often invokes the legacy of the Assam Agitation, it has fallen short in delivering on promises made to the people of the area. He held Minister Ranjit Kumar Das and local MLA Phanidhar Talukdar accountable for the perceived lack of progress. Citing a specific example, Bayan referred to repeated assurances regarding the introduction of a science stream at BHB College in Sarupeta. The institution, associated with Khargeswar Talukdar, was expected to expand its academic offerings following commitments made by former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
However, according to AJYCP, the proposal remains unimplemented. The organisation said such delays reflect a broader pattern of unmet commitments and urged the government to focus on meaningful development while respecting the region’s historical importance.
