Tezpur: The Central ‘Akash’ programme of the Asam Sahitya Sabha concluded on Sunday with the participation of over 100 women artists and writers from across the State, organised as part of the Pratibha Bikash Yatra.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Asam Sahitya Sabha President Basanta Kumar Goswami said that literary creativity demands discipline, depth and sustained engagement, observing that one cannot become a poet merely by wishing to be one.
The meeting was presided over by Asam Sahitya Sabha vice-president Padum Rajkhowa. Sabha principal secretary Debojit Bora underlined the importance of entrusting responsibilities to committed individuals, noting that programmes suffer when responsibilities are accepted but not carried out. He appreciated the effective role played by the organisers of the Akash sub-committee.
The programme was inaugurated by noted writer Dr Aditi Bezboruah and began with a rendition Chiro Senehi Mor Bhasa Janani. Manasi Saikia, convenor of the Akash sub-committee, outlined the objectives of the programme. A commemorative volume titled Rajmao, edited by Shyamalima Bora, was released by eminent Ramayana scholar Dr Malini. Eight other books were also released including Anubhabar Rangbur by Lakhimi Doloi, Hriday Ekhon Neela Sagar by Ruma Bezboruah, Mahakash, Bishwabrahmanda aru Anyanya by Dipika Sabhapandit, Smriti Diwas by Jayashree Saikia, He Borenya by Julie Barua, Asamiya Sahitya aru Sanskritir Epristha by Dipti Burhagohain Barua, Edhanir Biya by Shyamalima Bora, and Mor Esagar Bhavana by Jinamani Gogoi Neog. Six eminent personalities were felicitated on the occasion.

The cultural segment featured a rendition of the theme song Akash, penned by Naliniwala Hazarika, by artistes of the Jorhat Zila Sahitya Sabha. The programme concluded with the Jatiya Sangeet of the state, followed by a vote of thanks proposed by Mitali Saikia, secretary of the Jorhat Zila Sahitya Sabha. Earlier in the day, the Sahitya Sabha flag was hoisted by Mahendranath Hazarika, president of the Jorhat Zila Sahitya Sabha, and Kabita Tasa, president of the reception committee. The ceremonial lamp was lit by Binu Laskar Thakuria, working president of the Akash sub-committee, while floral tributes were offered by Madhab Mahanta, vice-president of the Jorhat Zilka Sahitya Sabha.
Among those present in the event representing Asam Sahitya Sabha were Sankusiddha Nath, Syed Maruf Hussain, Mintu Das and office-bearers of the Jorhat, Golaghat, Majuli and Sivasagar Zila Sahitya Sabhas.
