Akhil Gogoi, president of Raijor Dal and MLA from Sivasagar, has set February 19 as the final deadline for the Congress to formalise an electoral alliance, indicating potential strain within the opposition camp ahead of the upcoming elections.
Issuing a fresh warning over the status of alliance negotiations, Gogoi said that if no agreement is reached by the stipulated date, Raijor Dal will contest the elections independently. He added that in the absence of a formal understanding within the next five days, the party will announce its list of candidates and their respective constituencies on February 19.
The announcement comes even as Raijor Dal unveiled its election manifesto for the Srijangram Assembly constituency in Bongaigaon district on February 14, a move widely interpreted by political observers as preparation for a possible solo contest. The manifesto was released by Parvez Rahman, the party’s central organisational secretary and prospective candidate for Srijangram, at a press conference held at Abhayapuri Chilarai Bhawan in Bongaigaon. District president Mahidhar Ray and other party leaders were also present.
Addressing the media, Rahman outlined a development-focused agenda for the constituency, highlighting infrastructure development, improved public services and grassroots welfare initiatives. He stressed that the party’s approach would remain people-centric and accountable.
Rahman further assured that if elected as the MLA from Srijangram, he would remain accessible to constituents at all times, underscoring the party’s commitment to transparency and direct public engagement.
