Akshay Kumar Condemns Racial Discrimination Against North East Indians on TV Show

Entertainment, Feb 22: Akshay Kumar has strongly condemned racial discrimination against people from India’s North East following an emotional moment on his show Dekhiye Duniya ka No. 1 Game Show, where contestants from Assam and a crew member from Manipur highlighted the issue.

During the episode, triplets from Dibrugarh in Assam shared their experiences of being mocked and labelled “Coronavirus” or “Chinese” because of their physical features. Their account underscored the stereotyping and prejudice that many individuals from the North East continue to face in different parts of the country.

Responding to their testimony, Kumar invited his makeup artist Kin, who hails from Manipur, onto the stage. He said the interaction reaffirmed his belief that such discrimination remains a reality. Calling the prejudice unacceptable, he stressed that people from the North East are equal citizens and an inseparable part of the nation.

“They are all Indians. They have contributed to this nation, fought in wars like Kargil and Bangladesh, and are as Indian as anyone else,” Kumar said, referring to the region’s role in national defence and public life, including participation in conflicts such as the Kargil War and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

The exchange on the show has drawn renewed attention to the social challenges faced by communities from the North East, while reinforcing their vital contributions to India’s cultural, military and civic landscape.
