Guwahati, Feb 21: Amit Shah on Saturday, February 21, described the hosting of the 87th Raising Day Parade of the Central Reserve Police Force in Assam as a moment of pride for the Northeast.
Addressing the parade in Guwahati, Shah noted that in its 86-year history, the CRPF had never organised its Raising Day parade in the Northeast. He said the government took a decision in 2019 to hold the annual event in different regions of the country and expressed satisfaction that the parade has now been conducted in Assam.
On February 20, Shah launched the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme at Natanpur in Katigara along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Cachar district. He stated that the initiative is aimed at accelerating development in border areas and will cover 334 blocks and nearly 1,954 villages across 17 states, including 140 villages in Assam.
The Union Home Minister also said that illegal land encroachment continues to be a significant concern in the state. He added that the Assam government under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma has initiated measures to tackle the issue.
Later, addressing a public meeting in Silchar, Shah highlighted progress in infrastructure development, stating that Assam has built an average of 14 kilometres of roads per day over the past five years and completed several bridges, including four major ones.
