Amit Shah to Review CRPF Day Parade in Assam, Launch Rs 6,839 Crore Border Village Scheme

Guwahati, Feb 20: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the CRPF Day Parade as chief guest on February 20, reviewing the ceremonial event alongside Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, officials confirmed.

Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force, GP Singh, announced the Home Minister’s participation during a media briefing on February 19. Singh said Shah would inspect the parade and witness a series of demonstrations by CRPF units. The event will feature marching contingents as well as specialised displays by formations such as the CoBRA Commando Battalion. An exhibition showcasing the force’s specialised vehicles, arms, communication systems and operational equipment has also been organised as part of the celebrations.

Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, took charge as CRPF Director General in January 2025 after serving in key roles handling counter-insurgency and law-and-order operations in Assam. His leadership at the parade holds particular significance given his long association with the region.

In addition to attending the parade, Shah is set to launch the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP-II), a centrally sponsored initiative with an outlay of Rs 6,839 crore extending through 2028-29. The scheme is aimed at strengthening infrastructure and security in border villages, with officials describing it as a step toward building “secure, resilient, and prosperous border communities” that can serve as the nation’s “eyes and ears” in sensitive frontier areas.

The CRPF Day Parade is expected to draw senior officials and security personnel, underscoring the force’s operational capabilities and its role in maintaining internal security across the country.
