Amit Shah’s Guwahati Visit Postponed Due to Dense Fog, Fresh Schedule Awaited

Guwahati, Dec 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed visit to Guwahati has been postponed after dense fog continued to disrupt flight operations, officials confirmed on December 29. Shah was initially scheduled to arrive on Sunday, December 28, with the visit later deferred to Monday, but persistent poor visibility has now led to a further postponement. Authorities said a revised programme will be announced once travel conditions improve.

The Home Minister was slated to undertake a series of official and ceremonial engagements during his Assam visit. One of the key events on his itinerary was a visit to the newly constructed Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Guwahati, where he was to pay homage to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement.

Shah was also scheduled to travel to Batadrava Than in Borduwa, Nagaon district, the birthplace of revered Vaishnava saint Srimanta Sankardeva. During the visit, he was expected to inaugurate the redevelopment project of the sacred site and address a public gathering.

In addition, the Home Minister’s programme included the inauguration of the new police commissionerate building in Guwahati, along with an integrated command and control system aimed at enhancing the city’s security and surveillance capabilities. He was also to inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex, a large cultural auditorium with a seating capacity of around 5,000, envisioned as a major venue for cultural and public events.

Officials said further updates will be shared once a fresh travel schedule is finalised, depending on weather conditions and the resumption of normal flight operations.
