Amit Shah’s Sonitpur Visit Energises BJP Campaign, Ashok Singhal Highlights Grassroots Enthusiasm

Guwahati, March 29: Assam minister and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Dhekiajuli, Ashok Singhal, on March 28 welcomed the scheduled visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Sonitpur district, describing it as a significant boost to the party’s campaign ahead of the Vijay Sankalp rally.

Speaking to reporters, Singhal said party workers are enthusiastic about hosting the senior leader in the constituency. He noted that around 3,000 diyas were lit at Shaheed Maidan in Dhekiajuli to create a portrait of Shah as a symbolic tribute. The gesture, he added, also coincided with the anniversary of Shah’s visit to the area a decade ago.

The preparations come as the BJP intensifies its outreach efforts in the district, with Shah’s visit expected to anchor the Vijay Sankalp rally and mobilise grassroots support. The diya installation was presented as a show of solidarity and anticipation ahead of the programme.

Earlier in the day, Shah held a roadshow in Guwahati, drawing large crowds and reinforcing campaign momentum. Addressing the media, he expressed confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, stating that the BJP is likely to return to power with “more than 90 seats”.

Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam is scheduled for April 9, with counting of votes set for May 4, according to the Election Commission of India.
