Guwahati: Indian Railways has launched the Amrit Bharat Express, a new generation of trains designed to combine affordability with modern comforts. This initiative, announced earlier by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marks a significant step in making safe and convenient rail travel accessible to the common man.
A total of 11 Amrit Bharat Express trains have been introduced across the railway network, offering passengers advanced facilities at economical fares. Under the Northeast Frontier Railway, a new weekly service will operate between Erode and Jogbani from 25th September 2025. Train No. 16601 will leave Erode every Thursday morning and reach Jogbani on Saturday evening, while the return Train No. 16602 will depart Jogbani every Sunday afternoon and arrive in Erode by Wednesday morning. The inaugural run was flagged off by the Prime Minister on 15th September 2025.

Each Amrit Bharat Express is equipped with Kavach anti-collision technology, modern braking systems, CCTV surveillance, automatic doors, LED lighting, bio-vacuum toilets, and GPS-based passenger information systems. Push-pull technology, with engines on both ends, reduces travel time by eliminating delays during locomotive reversals.
The train can reach speeds of 130 kmph, covering nearly 1,000 kilometres for around ₹450, making it both efficient and affordable. Enhanced insulation, energy-saving systems, and improved seating ensure a quieter and more comfortable travel experience.
