Amritpal Singh Sent Back to Dibrugarh Jail After Police Remand in NSA Cell Device Case

Dibrugarh, April 25: Amritpal Singh, chief of Waris Punjab De and MP from Khadoor Sahib, was sent back to Dibrugarh Central Jail on April 25 after completing a two-day police remand at Dibrugarh Police Station.

The development comes a day after his re-arrest by Punjab Police following the expiry of his detention under the National Security Act. Singh was produced before a local court via video-conferencing in connection with a case involving the alleged recovery of unauthorised electronic devices from the NSA cell of the jail in February 2024.

The proceedings were conducted before Judicial Magistrate First Class Chandan Saikia, with Singh appearing from the police station under tight security arrangements. Nine of his associates, previously lodged with him in Dibrugarh and later shifted to prisons in Punjab, were also produced simultaneously through video-conferencing from jails in Goindwal, Bathinda and Patiala.

The case centres on allegations that unauthorised communication devices were used within the high-security NSA cell, raising concerns over prison surveillance and internal security mechanisms.

Singh had been detained under the NSA in 2023 during a crackdown on Waris Punjab De and was lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail along with several aides. Following the completion of his three-year preventive detention period, Punjab Police re-arrested him in connection with pending cases, leading to the current legal proceedings.
