ANSAM Announces Intensified Agitation After Ultimatum Over Alleged Abduction of Six Naga Youths Expires

Imphal, June 4: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has announced a series of intensified democratic agitation programmes after the expiry of its ultimatum to the Manipur government seeking clarification on the whereabouts and condition of six Naga youths allegedly abducted on May 13.

In a press release issued on June 4, the organisation said an emergency assembly held at Ukhrul district headquarters on June 3 expressed dissatisfaction over what it described as the state government’s failure to provide any concrete information regarding the safety, location or status of the missing individuals. The association said the continued uncertainty has deepened distress among the families of the victims as well as the wider Naga community.

Reaffirming earlier resolutions adopted by its emergency presidential council, All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur demanded that authorities establish the condition and whereabouts of the six individuals allegedly abducted by KNF(P) from Leilon Vaiphei village in broad daylight, and ensure their safe return to their families.

As part of its next phase of protest, the organisation has resolved to organise a march along National Highway-202 from Ukhrul towards Imphal on June 4. Participants are also expected to visit Makhan village and meet the families of the missing persons during the course of the programme.

The assembly further discussed the possibility of a broader boycott of the state government, noting that wider consultations within the Naga community would be required before taking such a step. It directed the executive council and constituent units to hold intensive consultations with stakeholders and also decided to constitute an action committee comprising former leaders of the association to address the situation.

ANSAM has also cautioned that the state government would be held responsible for any untoward incident arising during the proposed march along the Imphal–Ukhrul route.

Reiterating its commitment to peaceful democratic protest, the organisation stated that its agitation would continue until the six missing youths are traced and safely reunited with their families, amid growing concern among civil society groups over the unresolved situation.
