Udalguri-Sonitpur, July 27: The Khairabari session of the Udalguri district unit of the Assam Press Correspondence Union (APCU) concluded on Sunday with the election of a new district committee and the presentation of the Best Organiser Award.
APCU Chief Adviser Abdul Khaleque attended the programme as the chief guest and paid tribute to Bhavesh Saikia and Bhavesh Barua. He said the APCU was engaging with the government to address journalists’ safety and welfare and urged district committees to actively pursue issues affecting media personnel.
District secretary Fatik Nandan Rabha presented the annual report, while participants discussed shortcomings in the report. The meeting was chaired by district president Naba Kumar Deka, and Dhiren Mahaliya delivered the welcome address. Mahaliya also received the Best Organiser Award, 2026.
The gathering paid homage to victims of the recent floods in Upper Assam. Several journalists and local dignitaries attended the programme.
The session elected Naba Kumar Deka as president, Ganesh Deka as working president, Prafulla Kumar Boro as secretary and Sudarshan Kalita as assistant secretary of the new district committee. Earlier, the programme began with the hoisting of the APCU flag, followed by a tribute ceremony and floral offerings.
